Human-Centered AI
The Gemini Centre for Trustworthy and Sustainable AI explores the challenges of AI adoption in all runs of life, particularly in the area of human–computer interaction. Whether an AI system is facing a human in an interaction provided by a business or the government, whether it is used by a human to accomplish a task, or it is built by a human to support them in their everyday work, it is essential that the human can trust the AI. The current understanding, triggered by EU directives, is that an AI is trustworthy when experts can verify that its static design and its behaviour on known datasets adhere to expectations.
But which other aspects are important in our interaction with AIs? The MishMash Centre for AI and Creativity approaches AIs from the human perspective, understanding them as contributors to human creativity across all facets of everyday life and in fields including the arts, education, healthcare, and design. Does this uncover new aspects of the acceptability of AIs that go beyond trustworthiness? Are there scenarios where trusting AIs to “do the right thing” is not the central issue?
Draft program
The full program will be announced soon, but the afternoon will feature:
- Six 20-minute talks, followed by time for questions and discussion
- A concluding panel that brings together the MishMash and Gemini perspectives on Human-Centric AI
We welcome participants from a wide range of disciplines. To support informal exchange and deeper conversations, the program will include extended coffee breaks so that participants can approach speakers and continue discussions in a more relaxed setting.
