This website does not use cookies. As simple as that. We do not set cookies in your browser, and we do not use third-party analytics or advertising tools that track visitors.

Content from other websites

Two kinds of material on these pages come from somewhere else, and both are worth naming.

Videos are not loaded until you ask for them. Where a page shows a video, you see a still picture and a button. Nothing reaches YouTube until you press it, and the player that then appears loads from YouTube’s no-cookie domain. It is told which site it is playing on, because it refuses to play otherwise, but not which page.

Thumbnails beside news and events from our partner institutions are small copies of the pictures on the partners’ own pages, made once and served from this site, so that no request leaves it when the page opens. Each copy records where it came from, and the card names the partner. Only when a copy could not be made does your browser fetch the picture from the partner’s server, which then sees your network address, as any website you visit can, but not which page of ours you are reading.

The directory

The directory shows professional facts about members of the network: name, position and department, institution and work package, identifiers (ORCID, NVA, Wikidata), the results registered in the national research archive, a short bio, and the links the person chose to show, such as a personal website or a professional profile. A portrait is shown where the person has agreed to it. No private contact details are stored; e-mail addresses live on the institutional pages the entry links to.

Where it comes from: the person, through the membership form or an e-mail; NVA and ORCID for affiliations, results and identifiers; Wikipedia for institution summaries. The nightly sync may refresh results, affiliations, identifiers and a portrait that comes from NVA. It never overwrites the name, position, bio, roles or the links the person entered.

Consent: the membership form counts as consent to appear with name, role, affiliation, identifiers and the links given. A portrait needs a separate yes.

Changes and removal: write to contact@mishmash.no or use “Suggest a change” in the footer of the page. An entry is corrected or unpublished within a week. The site is built from a public source repository whose history cannot be rewritten without breaking every copy of it, so unpublishing removes the entry from the site and from the search index, not from the repository’s history.

Data classification

Each page on this site carries a data classification, shown in the “About the page” section of the footer. We follow the University of Oslo’s four-level scheme: green (open), yellow (restricted), red (confidential), and black (strictly confidential).

Our pages are classified green (open). Green covers information that may or should be available to the general public, with no special access restrictions — for example public web pages and openly published material. It applies when the university or its partners are not harmed if the information is exposed to third parties. Note that an open classification still means that only people with the correct credentials can change the information, and that being open does not in itself grant unrestricted rights to reuse the content.
