MeshUp #25: Where Does AI Enter the Creative Process?

– · Zoom · Add to calendar

Alice Demattos Guimarães

This week, Alice Demattos Guimarães will present Where Does AI Enter the Creative Process? Mapping Artists’ Uses, Choices and Creative Agency.

Abstract

Discussions about AI and creativity often begin with a deceptively simple question: Do artists use AI? Yet such a question says little about how AI actually enters creative practice, or what changes when it does. This presentation introduces an ongoing survey of visual artists designed to map AI use across different stages of the creative process, from ideation and experimentation to production, editing, and refinement. The survey explores where and how artists engage with AI, what they use it for, and how they perceive its implications for creative agency, authorship, originality, and control. There is an underlying broader discussion about how we might study AI not simply as a creative tool, but as part of the changing conditions of creative practice.

Access

MishMash MeetUps are short, informal meetings in the consortium where both early career and established researchers present ongoing projects. The events are open for everyone, but, for security reasons, Zoom links are only provided to people that are affiliated with a MishMash Work Package. If not, please ask for access. The MeshUps are not recorded since we want these short events to also serve as a social meeting point for the centre.
