Hans Skaug is a professor of statistics at the Department of Mathematics, University of Bergen. His research centres on applications of statistics and probability to biology, especially marine ecology, and on computational statistics, combining automatic differentiation with the Laplace approximation for latent-variable models. He has developed the TMB software and contributed to ADMB, served as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Scandinavian Journal of Statistics, and his recent interests extend to AI.
