Code of conduct

MishMash brings together people from the arts and the sciences, from universities, museums, companies and freelance practice. That mixture only works if everyone can take part on equal terms. This page says what the centre expects, and what to do when something goes wrong.

It applies to everyone taking part, in every setting: symposia, seminars, workshops, performances, online meetings, shared channels and the code repositories.

What we expect

• Treat people as colleagues. Disagree with the argument, not the person. Assume that someone from another field has good reasons you have not heard yet.
• No harassment. Sexual attention that is not wanted, intimidation, slurs, or comments that single people out by gender, ethnicity, religion, disability, age, sexuality or background have no place here, in person or online.
• Give credit. Name the people whose work you build on, agree authorship early, and be explicit about what a tool contributed. The centre’s rules for declaring AI assistance are in the AI colophon.
• Ask before recording. Consent is needed before a talk, performance or meeting is recorded, photographed or published, and it can be withdrawn.
• Make room. Chair meetings so that quiet voices are heard, not only fluent ones. Norwegian and English are both working languages, and neither should decide who gets to speak.
• Keep events usable. Venues, materials and online tools should work for people with different needs, and an event should say in advance what it requires of a participant.

Raising a concern

Speak to the organiser of the activity, to a member of the management, or write to contact@mishmash.no. A concern is treated confidentially, and the person raising it decides how far it goes.

For anything that calls for a formal process, the rules of the institution where it happened apply, and the centre will help the person find the right channel there. Nothing on this page replaces an employer’s or a university’s own procedures, or the law.

How this page is written

The code is written with the members, not for them. It is discussed at the centre’s symposia and revised as the network learns what it needs, and those discussions are part of how a centre this broad keeps working. Suggestions are welcome at contact@mishmash.no or through suggest a change.
