Andreas Bergsland completed a PhD in music technology/systematic musicology from NTNU in 2010 with the dissertation "Experiencing Voices in Electroacoustic Music," in which he developed an analytical framework for electroacoustic music featuring voice. Bergsland previously holds a graduate degree (1999) from the same university, with a thesis on the relationship between text and music in Olav Anton Thommessen's symphonic song, "Vævet af stængler."
