Madelaines (working title)

Summary

A new 20-minute composition for solo violin and electronics, created in collaboration between composer Mathieu Lacroix and violinist Victoria Johnson. Inspired by the discourse on time in music (Huber, Boulez, Stockhausen, Kramer) and in literature (Proust, Malouf, Fosse, Glück), the project investigates how compositional paradigms may change with precise real-time integration between performer and electronics and the structural possibilities of AI agents — much like the madeleine episode in Proust, AI and electronics allow a reassessment of how memory and time function. Four structured workshops serve as a laboratory for testing the system and reflecting on the work, resulting in a score published through NB Noter, detailed documentation, at least two concerts in 2028, and an artistic research article.
