Musician Workshops and Concert with SCSCI (Synthesizer Control System for Co-Improvisation)
Summary
SCSCI (Synthesizer Control System for Co-Improvisation) is a modular software system for designing personalised co-improvising artificial agents that listen to a live performer and control a sound synthesizer in response. The seed funding supports in-depth user studies in which three professional improvising musicians — recruited from the Norwegian Academy of Music and the Oslo contemporary music scene — each personalise the system towards their own style and aesthetic goals over three workshop sessions, followed by a public, live-streamed concert where each musician co-improvises with the agent they developed. The studies examine how musicians develop personalised co-playing agents, their experience of co-agency, and the aesthetic outcomes of the co-creative system. Outcomes include a research paper, open-source code, and a professionally filmed concert video.
